A journey to South Africa of the past and present. The tour highlights the spirit of hope and reconstruction of the post-apartheid era. Itinerary

Day 1:Thursday,                                         New York
Depart from New York on South African Airways fight.

Day 2: Friday                                              Johannesburg
You are met by the Somak representative and transferred to your hotel.
Spend the rest of the day at leisure. Protea Hotel Balalaika

Day 3: Saturday                                          Johannesburg
Embark on a historical voyage of discovery. Explore the history of South Africa and its apartheid years. . The tour includes, Soweto, Freedom Square, Regina Mundi Church, the Hector Pieterson Memorial, Apartheid Museum and other famous “struggle for freedom” sites (B) Protea Hotel Balalaika

Day 4: Sunday                                             Durban
Fly to Durban. On arrival in Durban you are met by our representative and transferred to your hotel situated on famous Golden Mile. Afternoon at leisure to explore the City of Durban. (B) Holiday Inn Elangeni

Day 5: Monday                                           Durban 
For a taste of authentic experience of Zulu Culture today you will drive to Zululand passing the rolling hills of sugar cane fields and forest plantations. Visit Shakaland, a Zulu kraal, near Eshowe, in the Nkwalini valley. Cultural programs of Zulu traditions: beer brewing, spear making, hut building, pottery, weaving, traditional dress, Zulu etiquette and the layout and social structure of a kraal. Enjoy a spectacle of delightful traditional dancing as well as a delicious lunchtime feast (included). (B, L) Holiday Inn Elangeni

Day 6: Tuesday                                          Durban
Today’s excursion takes you to Inanda, which was home to the Natal Native Congress, which then became the home of the African National Congress. We visit the Gandhi Settlement, where Mahatma Gandhi developed his philosophy of passive resistance, which had a profound impact on the history of both South Africa and India. Nearby is Ohlange, the school founded by John Dube, the founding father and first president of African National Congress (ANC). It is here where ex-President Nelson Mandela cast his first vote in the new Democratic Republic. The tour will also cover the various Shembe religious churches, which were founded by the prophet Isaiah Shembe and which have now grown to be one of the largest churches in South Africa.

Day 7: Wednesday                                    Cape Town
Fly to Cape Town. The rest day at leisure to explore the historical Victoria and Alfred Waterfront. (B) City Lodge Waterfront

Day 8: Thursday                                        Cape Town
Your day will begin with a tour of District Six, where you view the harsh reality of the past. In the townships of Langa and Guguletu, experience the spirit of hope and reconstruction of the present South Africa. In the afternoon take a cruise to Robben Island, where former inmates bring to life the history of this prison. (B) City Lodge Waterfront

Day 9: Friday                                             Cape Town
After breakfast, depart for the full-day experience of the famous Cape Winelands. During the course of the day there will be ample opportunity to taste some of the magnificent wines produced in this region. (B) City Lodge Waterfront

Day 10: Saturday                                       Cape Town
Morning at leisure for some final last minute shopping. Fly to Johannesburg and connect with your flight to New York

Day 11: Sunday                                          New York
Arrive in USA.
